Your work tasks
We are looking for a talented radio researcher who is highly motivated to pursue a PhD degree within the wireless communications network section, in collaboration with Nokia in Aalborg. The research scope is related to the radio design of 6G with particular emphasis on gaining the most from taking new mid-bands such 6-15 GHz into use and developing the needed radio resource management innovations to unleash its full performance potential. This includes integrated scheduling, link adaption, MIMO adaption, interference handling and more to take full advantage of new 6G Radio (6GR) techniques. Techniques such as QoS-aware RRM and potential application-awareness and use of AI/ML where it makes sense are naturally also in the scope. As the new mid-bands for 6G may include some degrees of spectrum sharing, various spectrum sharing considerations are also expected to be in the scope of the PhD study. This may include developing modeling frameworks and enablers to deal with potential incumbents that may interfere with 6G operation in such bands, as well as understanding regulations for upper-6GHz spectrum in different regions, particularly US and Europe. One particular case to potentially consider may be novel solutions for better coexistence with Wi-Fi.
Your competencies
Qualified persons for this PhD student research position are expected to have a Master of Science degree in radio communications, or a related field. Knowledge and experience with 5G cellular systems and wifi are an advantage. Good analytical skills, as well as programming skills as needed for conducting advanced radio system-level simulations are a prerequisite. The PhD student is expected to master English in writing and conversations. Finally, good team-player skills are needed as the PhD study will be conducted as part of a research program that involves tight collaboration with other colleagues. When submitting your application for this position, please make sure you clearly motivate why apply, and how your skills match to the outlined research and the listed requirements.
Qualification requirements
PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Technical Doctoral School of IT and Design in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.
