Be part of the future of creativity support for professionals at Aalborg University!
This interdisciplinary project investigates how generative AI can be incorporated into the building design and operation process. Particularly, we seek to support architects to design more sustainable buildings through simulation-assisted performance feedback regarding initial design concepts. We will explore how AI systems can augment professionals’ creativity toward concurrent optimization of human health and energy efficiency. This postdoctoral position will help design and evaluate interactive ideation and simulation AI supports tools.
You will join an active, interdisciplinary research team with strong ties to architectural practice.
The position is open for appointment as of August 1st, 2026, or soon hereafter. The position is a three-year role, located in the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University's Technical Faculty for IT and Design. In addition to the Department of Computer Science, the project involves close collaboration with the Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology and is part of a larger project involving at least two PhD candidates. [CB1] The candidate’s workplace will be in Aalborg.
Your work tasks
The postdoctoral candidate will develop and evaluate interactive generative AI prototypes that serve as creativity support tools for architectural design practice. Findings will inform the design and evaluation of generative AI systems and their ability to provide interpretable feedback on e.g. energy performance for conceptual design. You will have the opportunity to shape the project based on your interests and in collaboration with a leading architectural firm.
The candidate is expected to publish in leading Human-Computer Interaction venues.
Your competencies
You hold a PhD degree in human-computer interaction, computer science, interaction design, applied artificial intelligence, architectural design, or a related field. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating strong collaboration skills and the ability to acquire new skills and technologies. Prior expertise in architecture is not required.
