The Department of Electronic Systems at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for a postdoc in the field of RF Sensing and Anomaly Detection as per 1st Aug. 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
In electronic engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and societal impact. The Department of Electronic Systems employs more than 200 people, of which about 90 are PhD students, and about 40 % of all employees are internationals. In total, it has more than 600 students in its BSc and MSc programs, which are based on AAU's problem-based learning model. The department leverages its unique research infrastructure and lab facilities to conduct world-leading fundamental and applied research within communication, networks, control systems, AI, sound, cyber security, and robotics. The department plays an active role in transferring inventions and results into applications in close collaboration with industrial partners worldwide. Your work tasks
You will conduct research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, RF engineering, and spectrum sensing, with a core focus on AI-based spectrum monitoring for anomaly detection and identification. Your primary responsibilities include developing and evaluating machine learning methods for detecting, classifying, and identifying wireless anomalies in real-world radio environments. You will design and experiment with AI-driven approaches for spectrum analysis, work closely with signal processing pipelines built on real measurement data — including baseband I/Q signals — and contribute to both algorithm development and experimental validation.
The role involves close collaboration with industrial and academic partners; access to advanced RF laboratory and high-performance computing facilities; and active contributions to publications, grant applications, and broader project activities.
Your competencies
You have a strong research background in applied AI, machine learning, wireless communications, electronic engineering, or a closely related field. You bring solid experience in machine learning and signal processing, with preferably some knowledge of RF systems or spectrum sensing.
You are confident working with experimental RF data such as baseband I/Q signals, developing and benchmarking algorithms, and communicating findings clearly in both written and oral form. You thrive in a collaborative research environment and are ready to contribute actively to publications and project work.
Candidates based in the EU who are available to start at short notice will be given priority.
Who we are
You will join the Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University, a leading European environment for research in wireless communication, microwave engineering, and applied AI. Our research combines strong theoretical expertise with unique experimental facilities, including advanced RF laboratories and high-performance computing resources.
The position is part of the AI RF Sensors research group, which develops AI-driven methods for RF, microwave, and wireless technologies in close collaboration with Danish and international industrial partners.
