Postdoc opportunity in metal-organic framework glasses at Aalborg University

dato

Do you want to work at the interface of coordination chemistry and glass science? And do you see yourself as a team player who is strong in collaboration? If yes, we look forward to reading your application to our position as Postdoc.

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a two-year position as Postdoc in metal-organic framework (MOF) glasses is open for appointment from November 1st 2025 or soon hereafter.

Your work tasks
The selected postdoctoral researcher will engage in advanced research on the design, synthesis, and characterization of liquid and glass MOFs and their hybrid materials. The primary objective is to explore the fundamental structure–property relationships that govern MOF vitrification and liquid-phase behavior, and to develop new MOF-based materials with functional applications in energy, gas separation, or optics.
The research will include synthesizing MOFs with tailored topologies and thermal behavior conducive to melting or vitrification and investigating the structural evolution of MOFs upon heating using techniques such as variable-temperature PXRD, DSC/TGA, and spectroscopic methods. Exploring the thermodynamic and kinetic mechanisms underlying MOF vitrification and liquid-state formation also will be the important task.
The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field bridging coordination chemistry and glass science through a collaborative international framework. As a Postdoc, you will be supervised by Distinguished Professor Hoi Ri Moon, within the Section of Disordered Materials, but will also work with Professors Yuanzheng Yue and Morten M. Smedskjær and members of their research groups at the section.

Your competencies

  • Strong background in inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, or materials     science,  particularly with experience in metal–organic frameworks or related porous materials.
  • Hands-on experience with material synthesis and thermal characterization techniques, such as solvothermal synthesis, TGA/DSC, variable-temperature PXRD, and spectroscopic methods (e.g., FTIR, NMR, Raman).
  • Familiarity with glass and amorphous materials science is a strong advantage, including interest in understanding thermodynamic and structural aspects of non-crystalline phases.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex experimental data and draw meaningful scientific conclusions.
  •  Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and international research environments.
  •  A track record of scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals, and a proactive attitude toward dissemination of research outcomes.
