Postdoc - Advanced Trajectory Management and Analytics
A position to work with maritime data, such as AIS data, is available at the Data Engineering, Science and Systems (DESS) group at the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark. The position is temporary from 2025-09-01 to 2025-12-31.
About the Data Engineering, Science and Systems (DESS) group: DESS research focuses on data-intensive systems, spatio-temporal data management, data analytics, and applications of machine learning, with applications in digital energy and intelligent transport. Your work tasks
To apply, it is essential to have a publication record in top data management, data mining/analytics, and distributed systems outlets, such as SIGMOD, PVLDB, ICDE, EDBT, CIKM, IEEE BigData, TODS, TKDE, VLDBJ, InfSys, KDD, ICDM, SDM, TKDD, AAAI, MDM, SSTD, SIGSPATIAL, depending on the topic.
Your tasks are to perform excellent scientific research, develop research software prototypes and conduct experiments, publish in international conferences and journals, and participate in activities of the group and the department. For this position, working with trajectory data and maritime data, such as AIS data, is a benefit.
Your competencies
The job involves the implementation of software prototypes, so it is important to have experience with programming languages such as Python and SQL. We work with very large spatio-temporal datasets, so concrete experiences with spatial data tools such as PostGIS and QGIS are beneficial. Time-series analytics is widely used, so experience with tools and techniques in this area is also beneficial.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at the PhD level.
Advanced experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Spatio-temporal data management
- Big data management and analytics, in particular, advanced trajectory-based analytics
- Implementation of database-based software research prototypes
