At the Department of Communication and Psychology, the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Aalborg University, a position as a PhD fellow in educational pscychology will be open for appointment as of 1st of February 2026. The PhD Fellow will be a part of the project PRAXIS, a research project funded by Tuborgfondet.
The appointment as PhD fellow will be a fixed term (3 years), full-time position, which will include both research and teaching activities.
The position will primarily be attached to the section Psychology of Culture, Humanity and Education (Psyche), which focuses its research on the following main themes:
- Dynamic research community advancing qualitative psychology
- Strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity and theoretical rigor
- Approaches qualitative research as an integrated whole, where methods, theory, and empirical work mutually enrich each other
- Brings together diverse perspectives: humanistic, educational, socio-cultural, and existential psychology
- Actively contributes to public debates and societal discussions
Furthermore, The PhD fellow will become part of the project group and enrolled in the PhD school at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Aalborg University.
In terms of research
The proposed PhD project will be situated within the broader framework of PRAXIS, which investigates how creative, experimental and practice-based learning cultures can be developed in vocational education. While the PhD fellow is expected to contribute to this overarching agenda, the position also allows and requires the development of an independent subproject. This means that the PhD-fellow, in close dialogue with the main supervisor Professor Lene Tanggaard and the research team, will identify and refine their own research focus. The PhD project should therefore engage with themes such as learning cultures, creativity and experimentation in vocational education, but the precise research questions, theoretical framing and methodological design will be shaped by the fellow’s own academic interests and expertise. In this way, the project combines the strength of being embedded in a larger collaborative research environment with the opportunity to pursue an original and self-defined line of inquiry. The project must, however, remain grounded in the context of vocational education and focus specifically on learning cultures within vocational schools.
This PhD position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a major research initiative while at the same time developing an original and independent line of research within the field of vocational education.
