About the Job
As the Lead Systems Engineer in the Programs Business Unit, you will head a team of systems engineers, oversee the overall system design and architecture, and serve as the primary technical point of contact for the customer. This role encompasses a wide range of technical responsibilities, from defining spacecraft requirements to in-space commissioning. You will engage in various disciplines, including hardware and software designs, integration, spacecraft budgets, mechanical design, manufacturing, and more, working closely with specialized colleagues in each field.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the project’s systems team.
- Designing mission and spacecraft system architecture.
- Preparing documentation in accordance with space engineering standards.
- Participating in all aspects of mission and spacecraft design, from requirement management to spacecraft integration and verification.
- Managing internal and external interfaces (payload, ground segment, launcher, etc.).
- Collaborating with counterparts in other Business Units and geographical locations.
- Being involved in both high-level design and hands-on development/implementation.
This position is based in Aalborg (Denmark) or Luxembourg. The expected travel activity is 15 -20 days per year, and we are highly receptive to international applicants.

To succeed in this role, several years of experience with highly complex system design is preferred. Relevant experience in related fields such as defense systems, radio communication, and signal intelligence is also considered valuable.
A background in aerospace engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, system design, or a similar discipline is essential for this position. A keen interest in new space technology and general technology trends is important.
Qualifications:
- Relevant engineering education (preferably MSc level or higher) and/or professional high-tech experience.
- Previous experience in space systems engineering, spacecraft, and mission design.
- Strong understanding of space systems, including satellites, spacecraft, launch vehicles, and related technologies.
- Proficiency in systems engineering principles and methodologies, such as requirements analysis, system architecture, integration, verification, and validation.
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SOLIDWORKS or similar).
- Experience with mission analysis tools (e.g., STK, GMAT, or similar).
- Familiarity with programming or scripting languages may be beneficial (e.g., Python, Matlab).
- Systematic and proactive approach.
- Strong quality awareness and understanding of quality assurance processes and standards in the aerospace industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.
- Ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with space missions or projects.
- Capability to meet deadlines or proactively report any deviations.
- Ability to quickly acquire application-specific skills and adapt to new responsibilities.
- Results-oriented, autonomous, and analytical mindset.
- Proficiency in English at a professional level (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment alongside systems and subsystems engineers in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in explaining complicated technologies in easily understandable terms to customers.
- Previous experience delivering work according to ESA ECSS or similar NASA standards will be considered an asset.
