Role Description
The Spacecraft Controller is responsible for monitoring and operating spacecraft once they are launched into orbit. This includes managing telemetry, executing commands, and collaborating closely with mission control teams to analyze and resolve any anomalies during flight. In this role, you will also contribute to preparing the ground segment.
Your Responsibilities
- Operate all or part of the mission control system, which includes parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment.
- Interact with parts of the ground segment and perform routine operations on the space segment.
- During the pre-launch phase, assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations. The successful candidate may be required to develop methods or tools to assist in the execution of the operations.
- On-console involvement in Mission Readiness Tests, System Validation Tests, simulations and Launch and Early Orbits Phase operations following established rules and procedures.
- In case of ground or space segment anomaly, take corrective action as necessary, applying the contingency/emergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure spacecraft safety and the continuity of service provision to users.
- In the event of a major or critical anomaly escalate the issue in accordance with the established escalation procedures.
- Execute mission operations which may include tasks outside normal working hours, depending on availability of ground stations and satellite orbit.
- Participate in planning and documentation for future mission operations.
Qualifications
- A technical background e.g. computer technician, radio technician or similar.
- A detail-oriented and analytical approach to tasks.Experience with real-time data analysis and decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with Linux systems.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP.
- Knowledge of radio communication concepts
- Experience with git and python is an advantage.
- Experience in other operations environment, such as air traffic control, plant operations, IT systems monitoring etc is an advantage.
- Familiarity with satellite systems and space industry standards is an advantage.
