At the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, The Faculty of IT and Design a full-time position as Associate Professor in computational architecture is open for appointment from January 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.


The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology has as its goal the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

Job description
The position is affiliated with the integrated architecture research group at Aalborg University. Herein there are three overall research themes: health and well-being in built environments, sustainable architecture and digital architectural design in the face of climate change. It is in relation to the latter that this position is envisioned to strengthen the department’s research profile. Hence, the position is at the intersection between architecture, structural engineering, computation design, and technology-driven fabrication, where we are looking for an applicant with a background in Architecture that holds a cross-disciplinary approach working from an integrated design thinking perspective with both the architectural and engineering domains.

The applicant is a researcher within the field of computational architecture, and works within themes such as parametric design, digital fabrication, generative architecture and digital design as well as having competencies within research on the relationship between design processes and robotic fabrication and a focus on human-robotic interactions. 

The position is a permanent position, and research and teaching qualifications corresponding with the level achieved from a successful employment as assistant professor or similar is required. The applicant must document scientific production within the research field, and it is expected that the applicant will contribute to the knowledge production of the department by conducting and disseminating research and developing and applying for externally funded research projects.

The position includes teaching and supervision obligations at both undergraduate, master's and PhD level, as well as designing and leading educational activities. The philosophy of teaching in Architecture at Aalborg University is integrated architectural design based on Problem Based Learning. It is presupposed that the applicant has teaching experience and has achieved pedagogical training.

Qualification requirements 
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.  

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.
