The Department of Sustainability and Planning at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for a position as assistant professor in the field of Life Cycle Assessment as per September 1st, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed term (3 years) position.
The department was established in 1975. Today, the department it is located two beautiful harbour-front locations in Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,160 students.
Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as circular economy, technology, urban-, energy-, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation.
As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technology development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Your job responsibilites
As assistant professor of Life Cycle Assessment your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at bachelor's and master’s level, and you will contribute to the develop-ment of the department through research of the international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of the highest international quality, including publication of scientific articles
- Teaching, guidance and examination of bachelor's and master's degree students, as well as possible su-pervision of PhD students.
- Contributing towards attracting external research funding.
- Participating and contributing to collaborative research projects and research activities within the re-search group.
- Participating in the shared activities of the research group. This includes, amount other things, attending and helping in the organization of common research meetings, seminars, workshops, and the like, as well as contributing to create a pleasant, professional, and inclusive working environment.
You will report to the Head of Department Anne Merrild Hansen.
Your competences
You have independent research-related qualifications at international level and a PhD degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related field. You are a clear communicator, and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at bachelor's and master's degree level. Completed pedagogical cours-es in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with external research collaborations. We also draw attention to a stay or employment at one or more internationally recognised research institutions.
Specific expected qualifications for the positions are furthermore:
- A strong background in Industrial Ecology and Life Cycle Assessment. This should be proven for exam-ple by showing a publication record with direct contributions to these scientific domains, or documented hands-on experience with using LCA methodologies, computational approaches, and databases.
- Familiarity with the consequential LCA modelling framework.
Specifically, proven capacity in the development and use of dynamic approaches for direct application in LCA. For example, modelling of dynamic product system inventories or characterization factors. - Strong quantitative modelling skills and data analysis skills. Programming skills (R/Python) are a plus.
- Good networking skills and personal connections within the industrial ecology domain and beyond are a plus.
As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.
We expect you to be able to write and speak English at the academic level.
