At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology and Social Work a position as professor in organisational sociology is open for appointment from September 2025 or soon thereafter. The professorship is a permanent position with workplace at our campus in Aalborg, Denmark.
Job description
The professor is expected to take a leading role in further developing the department’s research profile in organisational sociology at the national and international level. This includes substantial contributions to a strong internal collective research community as well as to engage with external national and international stakeholders and partners to enable collaboration and external funding for projects. Moreover, it includes a strong commitment to shaping communities of research characterized by excellence, inclusiveness, intellectual generosity, and a supportive and inspiring environment for members of the research group and the department.
Organisational sociologists at the Department of Sociology and Social Work are part of the research group OrgSoc which carry out research primarily in public sector organisations using qualitative or mixed methods. Members of OrgSoc are responsible for teaching organisational sociology at most of the educational schemes in the department.
The candidate for the professorship may contribute to research and education at the highest level within one or more of the areas listed below. The list is not exhaustive, and we encourage applicants from other areas of organisational sociology to apply.

Applicants must document a high degree of original scientific production at an international level and must have contributed considerably and substantially to the development of the subject area, including theories, methods, and empirical research related to organisational sociology. Emphasis will be placed on the applicant's ability to take a leading role in contributing to a strong internal collective research community as well as external collaborations with national and international partners.
Teaching activities within the position include lecturing, supervision, coordination and planning courses in organisational sociology at Department of Sociology and Social Work, both at the Sociology and Social Work Programmes.
High quality teaching is an important focus area and applicants are invited to present examples of development of teaching activities, teaching evaluations, and ideas/plans for contributing to furthering the Departments teaching in organizational sociology.
The philosophy of teaching at Aalborg University is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. Therefore, it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with PBL.
Teaching programs at the department are mainly taught in Danish. Knowledge of Danish or another Scandinavian language is therefore an advantage. Alternatively, the candidate should be willing to learn basic Danish skills within the first two years of employment.
Qualification requirements
Applicants must be able to document a high degree of original academic production at an international level and experience from teaching at different levels. Including tests/exams, course/study programme management as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material.
Emphasis is placed on the extent, to which the applicant, has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.
Emphasis may moreover be placed on the applicant’s ability to carry out and develop research-based public-sector consultancy. Also, emphasis will be placed on an assessment of the applicant’s ability to perform research and teaching management tasks and possibly fulfil other functions, for example in relation to the university’s external cooperation.
Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant's ability to undertake pedagogical supervision, supervision and academic assessment work.
