The full-time postdoctoral position offers a three-year, fixed-term opportunity at the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Aalborg University, for a researcher who wants to advance sustainability assessment in the bioeconomy. The position is based at the Department of Sustainability and Planning (PLAN) in Aalborg and starting 1 November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Your work tasks
As a postdoctoral researcher in sustainability assessment for the bioeconomy you will develop and apply quantitative methods to understand the environmental impacts of bio-based products, technologies and systems. You will contribute to ongoing research projects at the Department of Sustainability and Planning (PLAN), Aalborg University, campus Aalborg, and collaborate with colleagues working on bioeconomy, circular economy and green transition. You will specifically contribute to European research projects on blue biomass valorization via different technologies for micro and macro algae production and biorefinery, as well as other research projects with bioeconomy focus.
You are expected to publish in international journals, present at conferences and, where relevant, contribute to research proposals and collaboration with external partners such as companies or authorities. The position may include a limited amount of teaching and supervision within sustainability assessment, life cycle thinking and related topics.
Your competencies
You hold a PhD in a relevant field such as industrial ecology, environmental engineering, sustainability science, environmental management or a related area. You have experience with sustainability assessment methods, including life cycle assessment and related modelling approaches, and you have applied these in cases and analysis related to biobased products and the bioeconomy in general. You are very well-versed working with data, models, statistics, simulations, and in general quantitative methods. Basic experience with programming (e.g. python) is a requirement, while having strong coding skills is a plus.
You have documented scientific publications in the specific research area of the position, communicate clearly in English and can work both independently and in teams. You contribute positively to the research environment and are open to interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience with teaching, supervision or collaboration with external partners is an advantage but not a requirement.
